Hey guys it's Rachel!
This week on my show I played Ra Ra Riot.
The band: They are from Syracuse, NY and formed in 2006. Ra Ra Riot consists of Wes Miles, Mathieu Santos, Milo Bonacci, Alexandra Lawn, Rebecca Zeller and Gabriel Duquette.
They have started to gain a lot of recognition recently. Last week they played in Brooklyn and New York City and all four shows sold out. According to the band’s site http://www.rarariot.com/shows.php they will be on tour until December 16 where they will end the tour in Mexico City.
The Sound: The band relies on heavy instrumental beats which are the focus of each song. Check out their new album “The Orchard.” It sounds a bit more polished than their previous album “The Rhumb Line.” One song that stands out is the haunting vocals which are held together by the constant driving drum beats found in “You and I Know.”
If you like Arcade Fire you’ll probably enjoy this band.
PS: The video for the song uses quick cuts that emphasis those powerful beats. The alternations of singing fans, nature shots, long car drives and pops of bright colors gives fans a glimpse into the life of Ra Ra Riot.
