Indie Update: Christmas Edition!

Hey guys! Vikki here with this week's Indie music update!

Christmas is a little over two weeks away, so, in proper spirit, we're going to countdown some of my favorite Christmas jams; from indie to not-so-indie and both original songs and covers of everyone's favorites!  Here we go!

10. Merry Christmas, Baby - Brighten (ft. The Maine)
9. It's Christmas So We'll Stop - Frightened Rabbit
8. Believe In Me - Fun.
7. She's a Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas! - Patent Pending
6. Angels We Have Heard On High - Relient K
5. Carol of the Bells - Bird and the Bee
4. Do You Hear What I Hear? - Carrie Underwood
3. Last Christmas - Taylor Swift
2. Baby, It's Cold Outside - The Hush Sound (ft. Thomas Dutton)
1. The Christmas Song - Raveonettes

If you only get your hands on one track off this list, any of the first three will make your Christmas season ten times better, guaranteed.  Not going to lie, I listen to number 1 all year round.  It's just that good.

The majority of these songs can be found here, most with a free download!

Merry Christmas, everyone! :)

Pop Hits

Hey guys, Tyler here with the newest pop songs!

“Back To December” Taylor Swift
After selling over one million copies in one week of her sophomore album Speak Now, Taylor is now onto her second single “Back To December.” It is a typical song from Taylor Swift as she yet again sings about a guy. But this time around, Taylor is putting the blame on herself instead of the guy. It slow ballad with both a pop and country sound mixed but overall, the song is average. Expect it to be yet another country-pop crossover hit for Taylor.

“Hold My Hand” Michael Jackson & Akon
While you would expect a song released after Michael’s death to blow you out of the water, “Hold My Hand” doesn’t quite do that. However, while it is a simple pop song, it is a meaningful song that has everything in it that Michael’s fans loved about him. The song basically emphasizes that you shouldn’t fight the love, but go along with it because it will bring happiness in the end. While Michael’s vocals are not what they use to be, they are still very effective to listeners. Add Akon to the song and “Hold My Hand” is a guaranteed hit.

“Coming Home” Diddy-Dirty Money
Diddy and his two ladies, know as Dirty Money, have a surprise hit on their hands. A lot of it has to do with the chorus, which is sung by Skylar Grey.  Grey not only wrote this song, but wrote one of the biggest hits of this year, “Love The Way You Lie.” With Grey as the songwriter and Jay-Z as the producer of the song, you automatically know it will be a hit before you even listen to it. Diddy’s raps are nothing special, but good enough to keep you listening. It’s about time Diddy has a hit!

“Rocketeer” Far*East Movement f/ Ryan Tedder
Everyone was dancing to their hit “Like A G6” this fall, now Far*East Movement are slowing things down with their second single, “Rocketeer.” As the four members of Far*East Movement rap about professing their romantic devotion to a lucky lady by asking her to join them on the ride of a lifetime, the chorus makes me the song so much better with guest vocals from OneRepublic lead singer Ryan Tedder. Not to mention, it samples the beat to Justin Bieber’s hit “Somebody To Love.” While “Rocketeer” is no G6, it has the potential to rocket to the top of the charts.

MADBALL!!!!! is coming to Bogies in Albany on December 17th! And yes, all those extra exclamation points were necessary to properly show how stoked I am for this one. You can bet these NYHC legends are going to tear the venue apart, along with Bitter End and Lionheart! No rhyme intended.

The "Ghosts of Hardcore Past" will be at Valentines in Albany Saturday, December 18th. The show features Pointblank, Cancer, After The Fall, Slackjaw, Infidels and more! Don't be a scrooge, this isn't a show you'll want to miss!

Job For A Cowboy will also be playing on the 18th at Clifton Park Northern Lights but I don't care about that.

The Acacia Strain is scheduled to play at Bogies in Albany on December 19th  according to Bogies' myspace.  I couldn't find a flyer however, and it isn't listed on the band's myspace. So, do some research for yourselves and let me know what you can find out!

Stillborn Fest 2010 is also coming to Lost Horizon on December 27th! The show features Hatebreed, who are being supported by: A Life Once Lost, Thy Will Be Done, The World We Knew, Hate Your Guts, Ghost Ship, and Nine Round.  Sounds like a total rager!

And now some Summer Festival News!

A Day To Remember has announced in an interview that they will be playing WARPED TOUR 2011, and judging by the success of their last album its safe to say they'll be on the Main Stage. Yay? Kevin Lyman, founder of Warped Tour has announced that they will be announcing bands officially starting This Wednesday, December 8th!

*The Entire Line up or Bamboozle has been announced*
A Loss For Words, Born of Osiris, Senses Fail, Vanna, Texas In July, New Found Glory Featuring MARKY RAMONE! Circa Survive, Transit, Oceano, Chelsea Grin, Streetlight Manifesto,  and more.
And the big headliner: A Day To Remember. Can't say I'm surprised, to be honest.

Until then: Mosh hard, or not at all!
