WAZZAAAAPPP!!

It's Ashley here with your weekly Active Rock/Alternative update. You're witnessing a music discovery here people. I was browsing for news as usual, and came across a video of The Sidekicks doing a cover of "Good Things" by The Mezingers, and I thought, wow this is a really good, emotional song. I decided I should check out the original, but it was the song's evil punk twin, and I loved it. I've checked them both out more extensively on youtube, and I urge you to do the same.

Albums
The Mars Volta have already earned respect, but I figured I should critique their latest album Nocturniquiet. I felt like there was too much weird, sensual growling than the usual insect like cream I'm used hearing. There just wasn't enough variety. Maybe It's just something I'll get used to. Here's a link to their new song "Memories."

Shows
Go see Every Time I Die in Brooklyn on the 19th! Just kidding, you probably can't.

Tonight at Northern Lights:
ASKING ALEXANDRIA
Trivium *  I See Stars
Motionless In White * The Amity Affliction

 Thursday, April 12
CLUTCH
Kyng * Monstro

That's all I have for today guys. Tune in to The Hipster 100 on Mondays at 10, and The Identity Crisis on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5!

WPNR Mosh Pit!

Sup dudes, Zach here with all your hardcore/metal news.

Not very "hardcore" but I just gotta say something about the fact that Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends" record is 10 years old today. Holy crap, do I feel old. TAYF is probably one of the best pop punk albums of all time, and as a huge pop punk fan I just needed to mention something about it.

Anyway, you can check out new releases from Stick to Your Guns, Wretched and God Forbid today.  Out of the 3 the STYG record "Diamond" really stands out to me the most.  STYG goes hard on this new full length, a good follow up to The Hope Division, which I doubted they could match with this new record. Give em a listen, they're all worth your time.

Of Mice And Men vocalist Austin Carlile is back in the hospital with heart issues.  Carlile was born with a heart malfunction, and had to take some time off because of it a year or so back.  Hopefully he can get back on his screamin' grind before OMAM takes the stage at Warped Tour this summer.

It's almost rage season folks.  I'll have your full list of April/May shows coming to our fine area of New York on Friday. Until then here's a little sneak peak for you.  The Summer Slaughter 2012 lineup has been announced! Acts include, Cannibal Corpse, Between The Buried And Me, The  Faceless, Periphery, Veil of Maya, Job For a Cowboy, and a few more to be announced. Get stoked.

The Audiophile

Hey guys!

It's that time once again for your weekly Alternative update! Bad noise records began a showcase of live videos from some of their artists. This week's featured video is The American Scene with their live video for "Rebirth." You can watch it here.

Albums
Say Anything, one of my personal favorites, recently released their latest album Anarchy, My Dear and I have to say I was less than impressed. These guys coined themselves on singing about the irony of getting your heartbroken, living in your own filth, and basically saying F*** you to the world. Now they're all about love and happiness, and it's just a bit strange to hear. Lead singer cleaned up not only his wardrobe, but his life as well, got off the couch and got married. I guess that's just what happens when you grow up.

As usual, Alternative Press failed to give due credit to Lovedrug for their latest album Wild Blood. AP gave it 3 stars while listeners gave it 4 out of 5. I gave it a listen and immediately wanted to jump in my car and play it through my crappy speakers with the windows down. I definitely suggest giving it a listen.

Well, that's all I have for today. You should probably be outside enjoying this wonderful weather anyway. Be sure to tune in to The Hipster 100 on Mondays at 10, and The Identity Crisis with my good friend Becky and I on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5. Rock on.

-Ashley
