Indie!

Hey everyone! Vikki here with this week’s Indie blog post!

We got a few pretty great CDs sent to the studio this week, so I’m going to give you all a short little review of the highlights, along with a rating. Here we go!

Clea Roddick – Songs of the Year:  Vol. 1
The first in a collection of four seasonal EPs, the Songs of the Year set is an interesting attempt at a concept album.  Clea Roddick showcases her vocal range on this EP, but keeps it in her typical mellow style, causing it to lack the “oomph” that could have really pushed the CD above and beyond.
Rating: 2.5/5
Recommended track: 4
Similar Artists: Rachael Yamagata, Dawn Landes, Jaymay

Bear Arms – Burning Bush Supper Club
The album as a whole is a perfect blend of quirkiness and talent.  The four boys who make up Bear Hands have outdone themselves; this album showcases the instrumental and vocal ability of all the members.  And the witty lyrics (Dark circles or light eyes / I eat cats for their nine lives) only help to solidify the album as an all-around winner.
Rating: 4.5/5
Recommended track: 1
Similar Artists: Foals, Title Track, Young the Giant

Justin Kline – Triangle/Six Songs
If you’re looking for some good-natured, simple and fun pop music, Justin Kline is your man.  The album, heavily based in acoustic guitar, bells and whistles and such, is a great record to bop around to; even the sadder songs have a happy tempo!  This album is a definite winner as well.
Rating: 4/5

Until next week!

Loud Rock! (Better late then never, right?)

Hey guys it’s Zach with some Loud Rock news! Sorry I’ve been so late with the blogs, busy times here at UC.
So basically, this is what’s going on in:
ADTR’s new album “What Separates Me From You” is out.  My greatest fears for that record have indeed been realized.  There are 2 solid songs on the album, you can hear them played on my show, The Moose Mosh, and all the rest you can probably hear on KROQ by now.  That’s my way of saying they’re not good.
On a much lighter note- some exciting news regarding Thursday! The band announced that they will be doing a “Full Collapse” 10 year anniversary tour which should be hitting Buffalo this winter! I’ll let you know when as soon as I can find the dates!
And in brief: Underoath has a new record out.  Earth Crisis is set to enter the studio for a new record in January, Every Time I Die’s new DVD is out, Suicidal Tendencies has postponed their current tour, And Attack! Attack!’s guitarist/vocalist has quit the band. (Unfortunately though, they aren’t breaking up)
Some upcoming shows to get stoked on!
November 20th- Bring Me The Horizon, August Burns Red, Emarosa, Polar Bear Club, This Is Hell @ Club Infinity in Williamsville!
November 24th- Cruel Hand, Backtrack, Ghost Ship, Atlas @ Lost Horizon in Syracuse!
November 27th- Rat-A-Tat 5 Featuring Underdog and Murphy’s Law with Stigma,        Divinity Theory and more! @ Northern Lights in Clifton Park
That’s all I have for this week, yall.  Be sure to tune in to my show every Sunday and Monday night from 8-10!  And remember: Mosh hard, or not at all!
