Hey there,

This week’s indie find is a song called “Nothing” by Young Man, a one man band of Colin Caulfield. “Nothing” is from his new album released today Ideas of Distance. The album has a unique feel to it and gets nothing but positive reviews from me. Check out the free download of “Nothing” on iTunes.

If you haven’t already heard Live From Nowhere Near You Volume Two was released not long ago. It combines street artists with established indie artists to create a really great mix. To boot, it is a benefit album. All the money raised will benefit homeless people all around the world.

After spending the past week hoping for the best but I expecting the worst, I finally got my hands the new Blink -182 album Neighborhoods. My overall opinion about it is defiantly positive. Although it sounds like the same old Blink it’s a bit more depressing, while keeping some great upbeat sections.  Never the less it has a great sound and I cannot stop listening to it.

*****Here's a taste if what our favorite stars have been up to this past week******
Chris Brown's recent concert in Detroit. He brought one lucky fan onstage to have her moment with him, but it was her knee that got all the action, what a strange moment for all the other members of the audience... How would you have reacted if Chris Brown pulled u on stage and start making out with your knee? O.o

Everyone is covering Lil'Wayne these days!
NOT COMPLAINING AT ALL!! Demi Lovato has recently been performing an amazing version of the rapper's How To Love at various venues, and it seems that Justin Bieber is joining in on the Weezy fun, as well! Various Youtubers are also making their own versions of Weezy's songs. Check out twin sisters Megan and Liz on Youtube their cover is great keeps me dancing :)

Jessica Simpson reportedly took TEN pregnancy tests to confirm that she was definitely pregnant.
Jessica was apparently so shocked when she learned she was knocked up, "she called a close friend and asked to buy several more tests and rush them over."
Ever since a doctor confirmed the pregnancy on September 19, a pal says that "she's the happiest she's ever been."

Zach is back with your hardcore, punk, and metal news!

As promise I've got your October show news this week! But first I can't not give Touche Amore some long overdue praise. "Parting The Sea Between Brightness and Me" is exactly what has been missing from the hardcore scene for the past 3 or so years. You can hear the raw passion in vocalist Jeremy Bolm's lyrics. Every track off the new full length is just so powerful.  Do yourself a favor and give these dudes a spin.

And now, the best Fall show lineup to possibly ever hit central New York (with a few exceptions of course):

  • Sunday, October 2nd "Falling In Reverse" at Northern Lights in Clifton Park
  • Sunday, October 9th "The Black Dahlia Murder" at Lost Horizon in Syracuse
  • Friday, October 14th "Polar Bear Club" at Lost Horizon in Syracuse
  • Sunday, October 16th "Alesana" at Northern Lights in Clifton Park
  • Tuesday, October 18th "Four Year Strong" at Northern Lights in Clifton Park
  • Saturday, October 22nd "Gwar and Every Time I Die" at Northern Lights in Clifton Park
  • Saturday, October 22nd "Agnostic Front" at Bogies in Albany
  • Monday, October 24th "Thoughts In Reverse" at Lost Horizon in Syracuse
  • Friday, October 28th "Restless Streets" at Valentines in Albany
Holy Awesome.

Don't forget to check out my Pop Punk show with my good friend and colleague Vikki, Mondays at 4!
Also, the Moose Mosh is back TODAY and every Wednesday at 6pm! Tune in and rage.

Until next week. Mosh Hard- Zach

The Audiophile

Morning Ladies and Gents,

It's Ashley with your weekly update on Alternative, Active Rock, Indie, and anything else I find that is worth talking about. Just a heads up, on Tuesday September 27, The National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) will be hosting a "webinar" all about saving college radio stations. It may not be something you're interested in watching, but it is good to know that there are people out there still pulling for us little guys. In other news, this week also marks the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's influental Nevermind.

Wilco is releasing a new album on Tuesday, the 27 titled The Whole Love. I haven't heard it yet, but AP magazine gives it some pretty good reviews, so I'm curious to see what it's all about. If there are any record junkies out there, you can even buy it on vinyl!

As far as live music goes, there aren't many shows coming up that I haven't already talked about, but SPOILER ALERT! I know it’s only September, but MY MORNING JACKET is on tour this winter, and they are playing with Band of Horses on December 14, at Madison Square Garden. If you can't already tell, I’m extremely excited, and you should be too.

Be sure to tune in to WPNR 90.7 FM, or listen online at www.utica.edu/wpnr907 on Tuesdays and Thursdays to hear me on air!

HELLOO MUSIC LOVERS
There are rumors buzzing around that a Kurt Cobain and a Jimi Hendrix movie are in the process of being made. Who are playing these iconic musicians you ask? Rumors say that Andre 300 from the duo Outkast will be playing Jimi Hendrix and Ewan McGregor will play Kurt Cobain. I believe that both of these people have the ability to make a very successful movie about these two legends of music. Ewan McGregor and Andre 3000 do look similar to these two so I believe that with the write acting and accurate facts these two movies could be very successful. Not sure when they will come out but when I find out I will be on here so STAY TUNED!!
Great news to the T.I. fans, he’s back in Atlanta where he is serving the rest of his sentence in a halfway home. It’s been a long 11 months and I am eager to hear what music he’s going to hit us with.

UPCOMING ALBUMS:

Blink 182 – Neighbors September 27, 2011
Not sure how good it will do but I’m definitely giving it a listen.

Rihanna - ??
Rihanna always produces great music. This album should be no different from the rest of her albums.

The Diplomats - Diplomatic Immunity 3 before 2012
I can’t wait for this album. Juelz Santana is one of my favorite rappers and if he’s on the album I believe it will be good.

Till next Wednesday.
And remember Wednesdays after 8:00 pm tune in to WPNR to hear me on air.
Enjoy the video

Zach is back with all your hardcore, punk and metal news!

Less than a month out till the new Trapped Under Ice record drops. TUI's newest full length "Big Kiss Goodnight" is set to hit stores October 11th. From what I've heard off the album so far, the new stuff is going to be a little different than the straight up rage which is Stay Cold and Secrets of the World. "Big Kiss Goodnight" was produced by New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert, and his influence on the album is very apparent. Justice's vocal style has definitely changed a little as well. Also, the album cover looks like a design you'd see on a Grateful Dead shirt. Old school TUI fans need not worry though- there's still plenty of chugging and Baltimore references.

We Came As Romans's newest release "Understanding What We've Grown To Be" dropped September 13th. The only thing this band has grown to be is worse. It has everything WCAR fans are looking for: zero originality, br00t4l breakdowns and keys. I was surprised at the lack of autotune in this record, but that doesn't make Kyle Pavone's vocals any more tolerable. Fans of tight pants and synchronized head banging are stoked though.

Not necessarily Loud Rock, but as a die hard New Found Glory fan I gotta mention something about theses dudes. Keep up on your NFG news in anticipation of their newest full length "Radiosurgery." The band has released two songs so far, both of course are killer. It's gonna be a good one.

I'm still unsure what time I'll be doing the Moose Mosh this semester, but be sure to tune in every Monday at 4 when I'll be doing a pop-punk show with Vikki!

Also, next week I'll have a list of October shows. More and more are announced every day! It's gonna be a solid month.

Indie Fix

Hey guys,

This is Becky with your weekly indie updates, I'm just going to come out and say that Matt & Kim are awesome. I just finished listening to the "Block After Block" Remix and I wouldn't expect anything less than what it was, but Matt & Kim would never disappoint. They are just finishing up their tour with Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance which I wish I could have attended.

In other indie news The Shins are no longer technically indie. They just signed over to a daughter of Columbia Records. Its been quite some time since they've released anything new but they are working on a new album that they plan to release next year.

I just got the new Bon Iver album and not being a huge Bon Iver fan I actually really liked it, with the exception of the last song. I'm really not sure what he was going for but it sounds like a bad 80s song mixed with good indie lyrics. Other than that its a really great album and you can get it for free at http://www.indiebandhouse.com/.

Thats all I have for this week but tune in to WPNR 90.7 on Wednesdays at 2 and 5!

The Audiophile

Morning!

It's Ashley with your weekly update about what's new in the alternative music world. What's great about this week in particular is that it's finally FALL, which is in my opinion, the best time to go catch a show.

This weekend, artists like Arcade Fire, who's set included favorites like "No Cars Go" and "Wake Up," and My Morning Jacket, who rocked the crowd with "Wordless Chorus" gathered in Texas to play the 10th Annual Austin City limits festival. The festival was three days long with music from hip-hop to folk to blues and rock, and a few long waited rain showers that Texans celebrated as it marked the end of a horrible drought.

Although I maye not be a die-hard fan, Blink 182's Neighborhoods Album drops September 27, and is said to be Blink's darkest album. The band's brief breakup, the death of producer Jerry Finn, and close friend Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, and the plane crash that injured the band's own Travis Barker have all manifested themselves into this 49 minute reflection of 8 rough years. With that being said, it is safe to say they willl never forget how to write an upbeat chorus line. Also be sure to check out one of my personal favorites, Bright Eyes with their newest album The People's Key. It's filled with Conor Oberst's usual brilliance, and  i'm sure anyone who is a fan will enjoy it.

I'll be on the air on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-11a.m. so be sure to tune in to WPNR 90.7 Utica College Radio!

See Ya!

Whats up everyone, my name is Harrison and I’m one of the new DJs at WPNR. Tune in Wednesdays after 8:00 pm to hear me on air. I am a fan of all genres. Artists from Weezy to Gorillaz; to Daft Punk to J Cole, so if you want to hear a vast variety of music, new and old tune in. I won’t disappoint.
Recently in the music world, I found out that the Rager in Kanyes camp is expanding his talents to other ventures. He is starting a record label, as of now “Wicked Awesome Records” is the name and I am eager to see who he signs to his fresh label. He also started a rock band called “2 Be Continuum.” He considered the name Wizard, but felt that it wasn’t original enough. Doing all of this while working on his junior album (which is rumored to be released midway of this year)? This is going to be a busy year for the Cuder.
ALBUM LIST:

Watch the Throne - Jay-Z & Kanye West
IF YOU HAVEN'T LISTENED TO IT YOU’RE SLACKING!!! Get on it. Even if you’re not a fan I’m sure you’ll appreciate at least one song on the album. Give it a try.

Amber Kush Mixtape - Wiz Khalifa
Not that new but still a good mixtape. If you’re a Wiz Khalifa fan you’ll enjoy this mixtape. OTTR, Weed Brownies, Flowers and Dot Dot Dot are my personal favorites.

Sleepwalker - Tee Harris
My boy from back home put me on this mixtape. It’s a new and fresh sound and he’s an up and coming artist. This mixtape isn’t getting the recognition it deserves because he’s not a big name yet. All of his track are legit and need to be heard. But don’t listen to me give it a chance show love.
UPCOMING:

Drake - Take Care
October 24th, 2011
Patiently waiting.

J. Cole - Cole World: The Sideline Story
September 27th, 2011
One of my favorite rappers right now. in my opinion he has the potential to be a legendI'm definitely getting a copy of this album.

That’s it for this week. Till next time people.

AND DON’T FORGET Wednesday after 8:00 pm I’m live!
Enjoy the video. Peace and Love.

The Indie Fix

Hey everyone!

My name is Becky and I am a new DJ at WPNR. Some of my favorite artists are A Day to Remember, Modest Mouse, Blink 182, Noah and the Whale, The Postal Service and Senses Fail among many others. I am also into dubstep and I’m hoping that I once we add more dubstep to our library I will have a dubstep show.  Until then I will be handling the indie music.

My most recent find in the indie department is an artist called Peter Wolf Crier. I came across him as I was browsing through iTunes and noticed he had a free download. I had mixed feelings toward the song at first but now I really like it, he has a unique sound. Be sure to check out Peter Wolf Crier’s free download of “Beach” off his newest album Garden of Arms.

The Drums came out with their new album Portamento just last week featuring their single “Money” and my personal favorite of the album “Days”.  Check out The Drums’ new album Portamento, now available on iTunes.

If you’re looking for a website to download free indie mp3’s go to http://www.insound.com/digital/free-mp3s/

Be sure to tune into WPNR on Wednesdays at 2 and 5 to get your indie, alternative and hardcore fix!

WPNR Mosh Pit!

The rage is back at WPNR! Zach here for another semester of hardcore, punk and metal news!

Bands in focus this week: Polar Bear Club, Four Year Strong, Suicide Silence

I can't not start off this post without talking about the new Polar Bear Club record "Clash Battle Guilt Pride." Polar Bear Club has yet to fail their fans. Their third full length delivers everythinng you expect out of a PBC album.  Die hard fans will notice a few changes; unlike a lot of their older material a lot of these songs have choruses, which will undoubtabley make sing alongs at live shows even louder.  Don't go thinking the band sold out though. Not to sound like a total hipster, but speaking as someone who's followed them since "The Redder The Better" this is my favorite PBC record to date.  Do yourself a favor and give it a spin.

Now time to get cynical. Four Year Strong seems to be taking a nosedive. For those of you who haven't been keeping up on FYS, they recently kicked their screamer/keyboardist Josh out of the band.  In an intervirew with Alan he says "there just wasn't a place for Josh's vocal style or keys in the new record." As soon as I heard this I prepared myself for disappointment.  After hearing two songs off their newest full length "In Some Way, Shape, or Form" I'm glad that I did. On a side note for all Ceremony fans: take a listen to the chorus of "Falling On You," I think it'll sound familiar...

As for Suicide Silence, I hope you  guys are into nu-metal. Otherwise don't even bother giving their newest record "The Black Crown" even a second of your time. And that's all I have to say about that.

October is the month for shows. From Syracuse to Albany, that month is stacked. Be sure to keep yourselves updated, and I'll have a solid show list for you later in a couple weeks.

I'm sure you're all wondering about The Moose Mosh! I'll be back on air this semester, I'm just not sure what day and time at this point. I'll have that down for you in next weeks blog but that's no reason to not stay tuned in to WPNR 90.7FM!

David Guetta reported to MTV that his new song "Without You" featuring Usher will be the biggest record of 2011. With his album coming together with guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Akon, Chris Brown, and Jennifer Hudson etc. Guetta said.
