This week's find comes from the west coast from indie folk sensations Ivan and Alyosha. The duo (sometimes quartet) came to fame through NPR's coverage of SXSW two years ago and have been doing well since. This week's find, however, comes not in the form of an album, but of a live acoustic concert that, in my opinion, everyone needs to hear. NPR's series of Tiny Desk Concerts feature some of music's greatest artists stripped down to just an acoustic guitar and a killer set of pipes (most recent additions: Adele, Iron and Wine and Stars, just to name a few). Ivan and Alyosha's set is exceptionally great, full of fun riffs, acoustic-guitar jamming and held together rhythmically by a maraca. A great listen, you can hear it right here.
And, while the album isn't quite as raw and fun, it's still a great listen. Ivan and Alyosha's latest EP Father's Be Kind and their older, more popular EP, The Verse and the Chorus, are both available now in stores and on iTunes.
And tune into Pion-indie!, Monday afternoons 3:00-4:30 and Wednesday nights 8:00-10:00!
